Allan Kinsella's Life and Education
Currently, Allan is a primary school sport and history enthusiast. He later attended St Patrick’s College, Silverstream which enabled him to cultivate considerable appreciation for varous subjects. His later enrollement to University of New South Wales sought him a Bachelor’s degree in Arts further demonstrated his passion for educations.
The Road Taken Differently
Whilst post-schooling defied norms, Allan’s surprise was not subtle in coming. Stepping into the New Zealand Army in 1990 marked an unusual working path he had wished to explore having no previous experience—this is quite the norm these days.
After being enrolled at the Australian Defence Force Academy, he also had a rigorous training regimen while in the Royal Military College, Duntroon, from which he received his commission as a Lieutenant in 1993.
Allan served and accomplished diverse missions regionally and internationally—Sierra Leone, East Timor—and parts of Togo where he participated in peace negotiations for the civil wars in Sierra Leone! His strategic thinking also awarded him massive recognition such as the U.S. Command and General Staff College’s Distinguished Master Strategist Award.
Not forgetting his involvement during the floods of Manawatu in 2004, Allan also contributed with police operations and other disaster management relief services.
Shifts Towards Public Service
After delving deep into the military world, Allan transitioned smoothly into career public service. Following the path of his father and brother—who both served in the fire brigade—was a new goal set to accomplish after his active duty ended.
Prior Roles
Allan has had sustained career development with his starting position in project management, later on becoming the Director of Assurance at New Zealand's Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). His contribution at MPI include enhancing food supply security and controlling the 1080 infant formula scandal during the period of COVID-19. His leadership has led the team to receive the supreme MPI leadership award!
Education and Family
Allan maintained a fast growing career while balancing his family and going on to achieve an MBA with Distinction from Massey University, as well as completing an Advanced Leadership Program at Cambridge University. His fierce determination is commendable.
Relationships
The Jennifer Marks to my Allen promptly became my greatest love, whom he first met at a rugby match in 1997. The couple got married in 2002 and have two children, Emma and Cayden.
In 2023, Jennifer succumbed to myeloma, a rare type of blood cancer after a heroic battle. Allan has managed to remain strong throughout, which is a testament to his incredible resolve.
To keep himself busy these days, Kinsella participates in activities like running, swimming, football and even cheers on his children.
Giving Back to the Community
In his past, Kinsella has also undertaken charitable activities supporting the Salvation Army, Mary Potter Hospice, Wellington Children’s Hospital and Caring Families Aotearoa. Kinsella believes that helping others is his calling.
